Asba Tasneem, PhD
Dr. Asba (AT) Tasneem is an informaticist and technical leader with extensive work experience in clinical trials, healthcare data, and data sharing platforms. At Project Data Sphere, she co-leads the Images and Algorithms program which aims to develop and innovate cutting-edge AI algorithms to accelerate cancer research. In collaboration with leaders from Columbia University Medical Center and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, she directs operations for the interdisciplinary teams. Dr. Tasneem also manages data assets of Project Data Sphere platform.
Prior to joining Project Data Sphere in 2019, Dr. Tasneem led development of the AACT database (Aggregate Analysis dataset from ClinicalTrials.gov) and managed Duke Clinical Research Institute’s SOAR data sharing program. She also served as DCRI’s lead informaticist on the NIH Collaboratory program.
Dr. Tasneem graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, majoring in Biophysics and Computational Biology. She completed part of her training at the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) of the National Institutes of Health, where she discovered the first prokaryotic homologs of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. This was the first time these receptors, which play a central role in fast synaptic signaling in animal nervous systems, had not been found in organisms other than animals.
